From F9 to Pass in Record Time - Just ONE Lesson!

You know that moment when a student walks into class looking absolutely defeated? That was exactly how F looked when he first joined my trial class. He barely made eye contact as he explained how he kept scoring F9 for English. He probably thought he needed to completely overhaul his English and panicking as his situational writing test was the very next day. However, during the lesson, I realised something important. His ideas were actually pretty solid. The problem was three fixable issues that were sabotaging his entire piece: difficulty phrasing ideas in a comprehensive manner, structure that jumped between topics and a confidence crisis.
Instead of overwhelming F with a million rules, we focused on his root problems. No shame, no judgment, just gentle corrections and immediate practice. I showed him how to use words, arguments and examples that he already knew rather than expecting him to reach lofty goals by memorising and reproducing model answers.
About halfway through the lesson, I watched F's shoulders relax. He started writing more freely, asking questions instead of apologising for mistakes. By the end of our class together, he'd produced paragraphs that were clear, well-structured and genuinely persuasive. On top of that, the increase in his confidence was clearly palpable.
He signed up pretty quickly after that first trial and when he got back his results, he proudly informed me that he had passed his situational writing!
The truth is, most students struggling with situational writing don't need to learn everything from scratch. They need targeted fixes for specific weak spots, confidence building through gentle feedback and recognition that they're closer to success than they think. If you're stuck in F9 territory and feeling hopeless, take a breath. You're probably much closer to passing than you realise. Sometimes all it takes is one good lesson with the right approach to unlock your potential.
